DELVAUX Paul

Paul Delvaux, Belgian post-impressionist, expressionist and surrealist painter, was born on 23 September 1897 in Antheit. Delvaux had a first post-impressionist period and then another post-expressionist period (1928-1934). The "Minotaur" exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels revealed to him surrealism, which decisively influenced his style. Delvaux's recurring themes are characterised by the depiction of naked women, men in costume and ephebes in a hierarchical and fixed attitude. The Paul Delvaux Museum is dedicated to him and has the largest collection of the Surrealist painter in the world.
